The Cinematheque Goes All Out This December (2016)
The Cinematheque in Jerusalem is known for its dedication to film and everything related. But the Cinematheque is also a place of learning; through lectures, documentaries, and workshops, the Cinematheque is a place to broaden your knowledge on a range of subjects.
This week, The Jerusalem Brain Community (JBC) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, will be holding a two-day conference, “Between Space and Time,” at the Cinematheque. The event will bring together top researchers from around the world to discuss and share their enlightening theories on the brain, including how it explores and processes the ambiguous topics of space and time.
The event will take place on December 7th and 8th, and is open to the public through registration.
While you’re at the Cinematheque, the venue’s own restaurant Lavan will be hosting a special event throughout the month of December. Spend a warm evening inside with the restaurant’s Pizza and Wine Festival. The restaurant’s windows face the Old City for a spectacular view while you munch on the chef’s unique pizzas and the restaurant's abundant wines.
Also in December, the Cinematheque and the Jerusalem Foundation will be proud to host the Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival, which has been warming up Jerusalem for the last eighteen winters. This year’s festival will take place from December 24, until the 29th. More information on the festival will follow shortly.
Jerusalem's Jewish Film Festival is Back in 2016
Jerusalem’s Jewish Film Festival, held as part of the 50th anniversary of the Jerusalem Foundation, will be back this winter for their 18th year of portraying Jewish identity through film. The Festival deals with many issues within Jewish identity across the world---both joyful and painful. This year’s theme will explore the topics of intermarriage and family secrets within Jewish communities.
The Festival is honored to open the event with the 2016 film Denial, directed by Mick Jackson; a startling and intense story of one woman who must stand up against a notorious Holocaust denier in court, in order to preserve historical truth. The festival will also include notable films such as Our Father, Tenth Man, Bang: The Story of Burt Burns, Germans and Jews, and many more, including discussions and Q&As with directors and professors after the film.
The Cinematheque where the festival is held each year, as well the Jerusalem Foundation are proud to hold the Jerusalem Jewish Festival as a way to bring the unique Jewish culture to the forefront through the art of film. The Festival is a significant way to share the depth and history of the Jewish people and the cultures in Israel.
